This is our start-up timetable that repeats every week.
Times are given in (+2) Johannesburg Timezone.
All classes are live streamed, and recordings are available for one week and updated after every class.

Monday

Swimming Dragon Taiyi
Location: Muizenberg 06:45 – 08:00

Swimming Dragon is a Wudang style of Tai Chi, a flowing internal training session focused on breath, structure, and continuous movement emulating the movement of the water dragon. Suitable for all levels, but the focus is on beginners. Suitable for all levels but the focus is on beginners. Live streamed weekly. Class Recording available for playback and updated weekly.

Tuesday

Baguazhang (empty hand)
Location: Muizenberg 06:45 – 08:00

Internal style Gong Fu - Baguazhang - The Eight Trigram Palms: Circular footwork, dragon like palm changes, form practice, technique application partner work. This class is at a beginner level and for those joining on live stream it is handy to have a partner for the partner work (about 10 minutes), but just watching, following and visualizing a partner is sufficient. Aikido (preparation - short staff and rolling)
Location: Pniel 17:30 – 19:00

This class prepares you for Aikido partner practice. You dont need a partner for this preparatory class. Aikido - the way of energy in harmony - Japanese martial art based on the samurai arts. This practice focusing on balance, flow, and technique and footwork. Mats to roll on and a short staff (jo) are needed if you join on the live stream. Suitable for all levels, but we will begin with teaching the basics of falling, rolling, weapon use and etiquette first before we can train with a partner. Live streamed weekly. Wednesday

Baguazhang (weapons - sword and short staff)
Location: Pniel 08:30 – 09:30

Eight Trigam Weapons (traditional internal style Gongfu). Suitable for solo practice. If you don't have a training sword, use a short staff and your imagination, always imagine you are holding a real sword. We start with short staff drills and foot work and move into sword form practice. Suitable for beginners. This class is recommended for students of the Baguazhang empty hand class. Strike Flows: Capo Box - Capoeira & Muay Thai
Location: Pniel 17:30 – 19:00

Taking the best from Chinese kick boxing, Capoeira, and Muay Thai, this class presents Capo-Boxing, and exciting new strike flow hybrid found only at the Freedom School and developed by Sensei Hans Menck. This class focuses on kicks, punches, strikes, footwork and strategies. You will eventually need a hanging punch bag or a partner to hold kick pads, but beginners will do fine learning technique without bags or pads. Great work out! Live streamed weekly. Thursday

Aikido (preparation, sword and rolling)
Location: Pniel 17:30 – 19:00

Aikido, the way of energy in harmony, Japanese martial art based on the samurai arts. This practice focusing on balance, flow, and partner techniques. This class is suitable for solo training (you do not need a partner yet) and prepares you for partner training. You will need mats to roll on, and a short staff (jo) or practice sword (boken) for sword work. Suitable for all levels, but we will begin with teaching the basics of falling, rolling, weapon use and etiquette first before we can practice on advanced level. Live streamed weekly. Friday

Tai Chi (Beijing 24) & Swimming Dragon revision
Location: Pniel 08:30 – 09:49

Tai Chi Beijing 24 form followed by Swimming Dragon form revision. A calm and focused end-of-week session. Live streamed weekly. Class Recording available for playback and updated weekly.

Swimming Dragon on Sea Point Prominade (no live stream)
Location: Sea Point Prominade, accross from the Winchester Hotel 10:00 – 11:20

Open Air Class, great way to start your Sunday, class live only, no live stream. Sliding scale, cash, R50-R150 or a session booked here.
