Taiyi Swimming Dragon (Part 1)

Location Muizenberg/Pniel

25 min warm-up foundation and qi gong, 25 min part 1 of the form (from Dragon Awakes to Young Boy tolls a Bell), 10 min warm-down and qi gong, 15 min optional push hands when study groups emerge. Taiyi Swimming Dragon is a Wudang style of Tai Chi, a flowing internal training session focused on breath, structure, and continuous movement emulating the movement of the water dragon. Suitable for all levels, beginner friendly. Live streamed weekly. Class Recording available for playback and updated weekly.

Pending: Ziranmen and Shaolin Gongfu

Location Pniel Dojo

This class will commence when 4 or more students commit to joining this class. Ziranmen (Nature Gate) Qi gong, as taught to me by Liu Deming, and Shaolin Staff (Gun) of the Wu Gulun lineage of Shaolin, as taught to me by Wu Nanfang. Form only, till study groups emerge. Staff needs to be of a length fitting under your armpit like a crutch.

Baguazhang (Eight Trigram Palm)

Location Pniel Dojo

Internal style Gong Fu - Baguazhang - The Eight Trigram Palm: Circular footwork, dragon like palm changes, form practice. Technique application and partner work can be included when study groups emerge. Learn one of the most sophisticated and respected traditional fighting arts of China. This class is at a beginner level and for those joining on live stream it is handy to have a partner for the partner work (about 10 minutes), but just watching, following and visualizing a partner is sufficient. Suitable for all levels Live streamed weekly. Class Recording available for playback and updated weekly.

Taiyi Swimming Dragon (part 2)

Location Pniel

After 20 minute foundation warm-up and qi gong we dive into part 2 of the form (from Young Boy Tolls a Bell to Rolling a Ball), and end with a warm-down and qi gong. Extra 15 minute push hands optional when study groups emerge. Class Recording available for playback and updated weekly.

Baguazhang (weapons - sword and short staff)

Location Pniel

Baguazhang, Eight Trigam Palm, is a traditional internal style gongfu. In this class we focus on a bagua sword form. Form practise only, with an extra optional 15 minutes of applications and partner drills when study groups emerge. If you don't have a training sword, use a short staff and your imagination, always imagine you are holding a real sword. We start with short staff drills and foot work and move into sword form practice. You can use your short staff as a practice sword. This class is recommended for students of the Baguazhang empty hand class. Class Recording available for playback and updated weekly.

Strike Flows: Capo Box - Capoeira & Muay Thai

Location Pniel

Taking the best from Chinese kick boxing, Capoeira, and Muay Thai, this class presents Capo-Boxing, and exciting new strike flow hybrid found only at the Freedom School and developed by Sensei Hans Menck. This class focuses on kicks, punches, strikes, footwork and strategies. Class is form only, but having a punch bag in your training space will help you apply techniques. Partner work will be included only when study groups emerge that can accommodate partner work. Great work out and effective techniques! Live streamed weekly. Taiyi Swimming Dragon (part 3)

Location Pniel

Part 3 is from rolling a ball to the end of the form. Swimming Dragon is a Wudang style of Tai Chi, a flowing internal training session focused on breath, structure, and continuous movement emulating the movement of the water dragon. Suitable for solo training and all levels, but focus is on intermediate level. Suitable for all levels but the focus is on intermediate flows. Live streamed weekly. Aikido conditioning and Sword (Ken)

Location Pniel

Aikido, the way of energy in harmony, Japanese martial art based on the samurai arts. At present class is solo form practice only. Partner work will commence when study groups emerge (more then one person training together). Solo form practice prepares you for partner training and is an very good work out. Warm-up, Rolls, Footwork, Weapons. You will need mats to roll on, and a short staff (jo) or practice sword (boken) for sword work. Suitable for all levels, but we will begin with teaching the basics of falling, rolling, weapon use and etiquette first before we can practice on advanced level. Live streamed weekly. Gongfu forms revision: Ziranmen, Tai Chi Beijing 24, Taiyi Swimming Dragon, Shaolin Staff and Bagua Sword

Location Pniel

This is an intermediate level form class. Beginners may join and enjoy being in the deep end, but we are going through our intermediate forms practice like a slow-speed zen car chase:) 15 minute partner work may be added when training groups emerge. 10min foundation warm-up, 3 repetitions Ziranmen qi gong, Taiji Beijing 24 (left and right), 15mins Taiyi Swimming Dragon (left and right), 5 mins Shaolin Staff (left and right), 10mins Bagua sword (left and right). Warm-down. Class Recording available for playback and updated weekly.
